3G came to Murmansk

The first Russian mobile operator `Megafon` organized the press-conference to demonstrate the advantages of 3G standard on September 29, 2008. Aleksey Ganeev, the marketing manager of Regional `Megafon – North-West` division, opened the press-conference with the speech and mentioned that 3G presentation takes place in the same day in Murmansk, Archangelsk, Kaliningrad, , Petrozavodsk, Pskov, Velikiy Novgorod, Cherepovec.

According to Vladimir Chujko, the director of Regional `Megafon – North-West` division, new 3G standard offers wide range of services, the basis of which is high-speed data transmission- UMTS technology (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System). Today’s speed of information exchange is 7,2 Mbit/s, but it is planned to be increased up to 14,4 Mbit/s.

As Vasilij Balyarskij, the corporate clients manager of Regional `Megafon – North-West` division, informed, `Megafon` clients can already try the 3G: high-speed Internet, «Mobile TV» and video call. There are 500 3G stations in North-West Region, including all Murmansk districts, Kola, Apatity, Gadzhievo, Zapolyarnyj, Kovdor, Polyarnyj, Severomorsk, Vidyaevo, Murmashi, Nikel.

In order to show the strengths of high-speed data transmission with the help of brand new technologies, it was planned to broadcast the on-line press-conference of `Zenit` football club held in Saint-Petersburg during the `Megafon` presentation in Murmansk. Unfortunately, the broadcast had failed because of technical reasons, but after some minutes guests of the event could see the press- centre of Petrovski stadium, where the `Zenit` press-conference took place.

Finally, the chief dealer manager Dmitrij Kryukov showed how to use the 3G modem.
