The “Arctic Bridge” project was discussed in Moscow

The seminar to discuss perspectives of the “Arctic Bridge” project was held in Moscow on October 12, 2008. According to the Department of Economic Development of the Murmansk region, delegation from the Murmansk region also participated in this seminar organized by the Embassy of Canada in the Russian Federation. The aim of the seminar was to discuss and promote the idea of organization of the new transport route between Churchill (Canada) and Murmansk ports.

The Murmansk region and Canadian province of Manitoba where port of Churchill is located have long-term partnership relations. The Agreement to launch the project of marine communication between ports of Murmansk and Churchill was signed in February 2002.

Ralf Lysyshyn, Ambassador of Canada in Russia, Viktor Gorbunov, Deputy Head of the Department of Economic Development of the Murmansk region, representatives of the port of Churchill, Russian and Canadian companies took part in the seminar. The “Arctic Bridge” project was highly assessed by the participants. Pilot cargo transportations took place in 2007 and showed significant economic expediency of this transport route.
