cross-borderVisa-free travel within 30km Russian-Norwegian border zone
Yun Fredriksen, the Norwegian General Consul in Murmansk, declared on October 1, 2008, that Russian authorities made an official proposal to start visa-free travel within Norwegian-Russian frontier.During the June meeting of Ministers of International relations of Norway and Russia, Segrey Lavrov and Jonas Gar Stere, the question of visa-free travel between municipalities situated near Norwegian-Russian border was thoroughly discussed.
The General Consul Fredriksen specified on the Stoltenberg Symposium’s presentation in Kirkenes that Russia directed the concrete proposal to the Norwegian Minister of International relations. According to barentsobserver, Mr. Fredriksen underlined good neighborly relations with Russia despite recent West-East strained relations. The Russian proposal is being considered by the Norwegian International Ministry and compromise will be found in the nearest future. One more announcement made at the presentation is the opportunity to get 5-year multi visa for Murmansk and Arkhangelsk citizens since October 1, 2008.
Visa-free travel will work for citizens who live within 30km border zone. The only condition to get this visa is the confirmation of the normal visa usage during several years and absence of law problems at this time.
