The new phase of Schtokman Development began

As MBNEWS was informed the next so-called `sea` phase of Schtokman Development began. The research vessel “Bavenit” of “Arctic Marine Engineering Geological Expeditions” (AMIGE) started to carry out complex engineering survey on Russian Arctic shelf by the order of “Gazprom”. According to Alexander Selin, the Head of Administrative and technical department of “Sevneftegaz”, there are only 2 vessels universally which are capable of this task. One of them is “Bavenit” that is owned by AMIGE.

However, as Nikolay Koptev, the deputy operations director, explained the vessel will not always return to Murmansk due to its expensiveness. It will be positioned in Norwegian port Kirkenes and will go to the place of future Schtokman platforms beyond economic maritime zone.

The vessel “Bavenit” is intended for performance of engineer-geotechnical researches on Arctic shelf, in the Mediterranean Sea, offshore Japan and Africa and in the Indian Ocean. The vessel is built according to the international requirements for ocean vessels on shipyard “Holming OY” in Finland and was transmitted to the owner AMIGE in 1986 г. The vessel is classified according to the Register of Russia as geotechnical vessel. It is used for operations on a continental shelf with marine structures on a depth of water up to 1500 m, at depth of drilling on a ground up to 200 m. The vessel has a system of compensation of heave displacements of a chisel string.

From 1980 to 2000 AMIGE has been carrying out numerous projects for “Rosshelf”, “Gazprom” and other national clients including preparation of 127 reports on installation of offshore drill rigs of various types in the Barents and Kara Seas.

According to the Head of Geological survey Department Sergey Rokos the main aims of crew are to estimate the natural environment of the field and to prepare the conclusion about drilling rigs placement. The crew of the ship is international and consists of 34 Russian and 15 foreign specialists.
